Members Magazine

A horticultural club magazine for our members. Photography, design and copy by me.

This year marked the launch of Chessington Garden Centre’s first-ever horticultural magazine for our Membership Club, and I was proud to lead its design and development.

The aim was twofold: to highlight the many benefits of becoming a member, and to provide valuable gardening content our readers would truly enjoy and learn from. Working from a foundational brief, I created a full contents structure that reflected popular gardening topics such as honey bees, seasonal planting, spring gardening jobs, and more… all designed to inspire and inform.

Alongside the magazine’s creation, I also worked on modernising elements of Chessington’s brand guidelines across both digital and printed media, including POS. I wanted the magazine to reflect this refreshed identity; clean, considered, and visually engaging - not just another throwaway members' freebie, but something worth keeping.

The colour palette was led by our signature turquoise, a recognisable brand anchor for Chessington Garden Centre, with supporting off-white and dark grey tones used for contrast in copy, logos, outlines, and headings. I combined our house fonts; Raleway and Brown Pen, to balance clarity with personality, using the handwritten Brown Pen font for warmth and charm.

Some pages, like the Wildlife Gardening feature and the Annual Flower Planner, gave me the freedom to make more playful, creative decisions, resulting in layouts that are vibrant, engaging, and fun to read.

Scroll down to see the final design. I’m incredibly proud of how it turned out. It’s not only a strong foundation for future publications, but also a fresh, elevated format that members can truly connect with.
